BANGKOK - ROYAL PALACE, WAT PHO, WAT ARUN, ROYAL BARGE MUSEUM, ICON SIAM - FULL DAY WITH LOCAL TRANSPORT & LOCAL GUIDE. LUNCH IN LOCAL RESTAURANT
Day 1
08:00 am, meeting with the guide and departure for this day of visiting the city, using local transport.
We go to the nearest BTS elevated subway station and head to Saphan Taksin station.
From here we will use the ferry to continue with the visits.
Starting with the Royal Barge Museum, the Thai king often sailed down the Chao Phraya River in an elaborate procession of wooden sailboats with ornate designs and depictions of Hindu / Buddhist icons on the arches. While the spectacular processions take place no more than once every few years, today we will visit the Royal Barges National Museum to see some of the boats.
Six traditional barges are exhibited in the museum, each carved from a single tree trunk and finished in lacquer, colored paint and reflective inlay designs similar to those found in Thai temple buildings. Detailed images of Hanuman, Vishnu and Garuda, among other Hindu gods and icons, are engraved on the prows. A type of mythological swan head faces the late King Bhumibol's barge, known as Suphanahong ("Golden Swan"). Rebuilt in 1911, it received a Maritime Heritage Award from the World Ship Trust of Great Britain in 1992.
It continues with the Royal Palace, founded in 1782, includes not only royal rooms and throne, but also numerous government offices and the famous Temple of the Emerald Buddha. It covers an area of 218,000 square meters and is surrounded by four walls, 1900 meters long. The palace was built after King Rama I took the throne. Before that, the royal palace and administrative center were located in Thonburi, on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. For various reasons, the new king considered the former capital inadequate and decided to establish a new capital across the river
Under his royal command, a palace was built to serve not only as his residence but also as the seat of administrative offices. The royal complex has since been known as The Grand Palace. The first two buildings erected within the complex were the Dusit Haha Prasat Throne Hall and the Phra Maha Monthian.
Next we visit the adjacent Wat Pho which is not only one of the most visited Buddhist temples in Bangkok, but is also the combination of history, medical science and educational institution. Officially baptized Wat Prachetuphon Vimon Mangkararam, Wat Pho was founded during the 16th century and later became the Royal Temple of King Rama I of the Chakri dynasty. Located within the main ordination hall is the 46-meter reclining sacred Buddha, whose feet are beautifully inlaid with mother-of-pearl, carved with sacred signs. Wat Pho is, among Thais, also known as "the nation's first public university", thanks to 1,360 marble inscriptions on medical, historical and liberal sciences found throughout the temple where people can read and learn at any time . Marble inscriptions on medical sciences, anatomy and orthopedics are the origins of the traditional massage principles of Wat Pho Thai, which made Wat Pho a world famous site. Traditional service, nowadays, is also available at the nearby pavilion. in 2008, Wat Pho was named UNESCO World Memory (MOW) as a documentary heritage for Asia and the Pacific region.
The visits in the morning end with Wat Arun, One of the most recognizable monuments in Bangkok is Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of Dawn, which is located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. A temple has occupied the site for hundreds of years, but the name and design of the temple have changed several times in those years.
Wat Arun is a Khmer-style temple with four pranghi (also known as prasat) and a larger one in the middle. This layout is a representation of the five sacred mountains that housed the gods based on Khmer, Hindu and Buddhist cosmology. The central prang represents Mount Meru, the center of the universe. When the height of the central prang was extended, Rama III ordered that colored pottery and porcelain be used to form elaborate motifs and designs. This unusual design feature makes the pranghe sparkle and sparkle in the sunlight and give the temple a unique charm that must be seen up close to be fully appreciated. A very steep staircase with narrow steps allows visitors to partially ascend the central bow to a platform that offers beautiful views. Lunch in a local restaurant.
We dedicate the afternoon to markets and shopping.
Of course, Pak Klong Talad, the largest wholesale market in Bangkok, cannot be missed. While it may not be a typical tourist attraction, Pak Klon
g Talad attracts visitors looking for Bangkok experiences off the beaten path. The area is a fascinating place to visit and experience the activity and hustle and bustle of an authentic 24/7 job market.
Pak Klong Talad is best known for its flower market, but fruit and vegetables are also sold here. The market is a feast for the senses. Dazzling yellow chrysanthemums by the thousands are piled next to purple orchids. In the side streets, the chillies form a fiery traffic light of color with the red, amber and green fill floors and overflow onto the sidewalks. Mature skinny old men compete with saucy young men who push carts full of products to and from wholesalers. Passers-by are teased by jasmine gushes and the scent of orchids hangs heavily in the humid Bangkok air. All around the constant chatter of trade provides the soundtrack that plays softly during the day increasing in volume at night before reaching a crescendo in the peak trading hours before dawn.
From here we go to Icon Siam, a sensational mixed destination shopping destination on the river, where the best of Thai retail, entertainment, hospitality and more come together as one.
Icon Siam is the ultimate shopping destination on the Bangkok River. The all-in-one complex, set on 50 rai (750,000 square meters) of land on the bank of the Chao Phraya River and another 5 rai on Charoen Nakhon Road, is a marvel for retail and development enthusiasts. It is divided into three main sections: the main Icon Siam, the charming Icon Luxe riverfront and the Siam Takashimaya side street. Special zones are incorporated within them which distinguish Icon Siam from other shopping centers. To name a few, SookSiam brings the best of Thailand's provinces into a "village" while Icon Craft curates high-quality Thai craftsmanship and showcases them across two floors.
From the outside, Icon Siam is an architectural marvel. The design of the two shopping complexes is inspired by the cultural values and beliefs related to the Chao Phraya River, including "krathong" and "baisri". The building is an ultra-modern building that mimics the way a krathong is folded, translating traditional Thai design signatures into modern interpretations. The complex resembles three glass krathongs with the façade extending 300 meters along the river. A special glass is used to create vertical folds throughout the complex, creating a new precedent. The design takes up a traditional Thai dress with a pleated shawl that wraps around this most eye-catching part of the ensemble.
At 17:00 return to Saphan Taksin and with the BTS elevated subway, back to the hotel. End of services.
