BANGKOK. UNUSUAL TOUR AMONG PALACES, TEMPLES, AND KUDI CHEEN. (B.L.)
Breakfast at the hotel and meeting with the guide. The first stop of the day will be the "Reclining Buddha Temple." Wat Pho is the oldest Buddhist monastery in the city and also houses the oldest Thai massage school. Subsequently, with a public boat, we will reach Wat Arun, or the "Temple of Dawn." From here, it will be a short distance to reach the characteristic Kudi Cheen (Kudi Chin) district. We will continue on foot to reach the small village and get to know the local community, where time seems to have stopped! We will visit the ancient bakery (Thanusingha Bakery House), which still produces delicious sweets, the small Baan Kudi Chin museum, and the exotic Taoist temple of Kuan An Keng Shrine. End of the visits and continuation by car to the local restaurant to enjoy a delicious lunch.
In the afternoon, the last stop will be the majestic and astonishing Royal Grand Palace with Wat Phra Kaew, the "Emerald Buddha Temple." The Royal Palace also includes the Chakri Palace (visitable only from the outside), the Dusit Palace, and the Montien Palace, the latter visitable only at certain times. Around 4:30 PM, end of the visits and return to the hotel.
IMPORTANT Please dress appropriately, covering shoulders and legs up to the knees. Please bring your passport, often required for entrance checks.
Day 3
BANGKOK - Maeklong Railway, Damnoen Saduak - Half Day (B.)
Breakfast at the hotel.
At 06:30-07:00 AM, meet with the guide and depart for a wonderful day visiting the nearby provinces of Song Khram and Ratchaburi, about 100 Km from Bangkok. Start with the Railway Market (Hoop Rom Market) also commonly known as the Siang Tai (life-risking) Market. It is considered one of Thailand's fantastic attractions. Spanning 100 meters, the market is located on the railway near the Mae Klong railway station. Then proceed to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, arrive at the pier and take a long-tail boat for about 30 minutes through the canals to reach the Floating Market.
Damnoen Saduak Market in Ratchaburi is one of the most popular floating markets in Thailand. Every day many Thai and foreign tourists come here to shop, eat and soak up the atmosphere of Thailand's water markets built over a hundred years ago. At around 11:00 AM, depart to return to Bangkok, with arrival at the hotel expected around 12:00 PM. Afternoon free for individual activities and/or optional ones.
Day 4
BANGKOK – AIRPORT TRANSFER – Driver Only (B.)
Breakfast at the hotel. Three hours before the flight, meet the driver in the hotel lobby. Transfer to the airport.
CHIANG RAI – Arrival, Golden Triangle, Opium Museum – Boat on the Kok River, Ethnic Minorities. (L.)
Arrive at Chiang Rai airport by 10:00 AM, greeted by a local guide.
Today we start exploring this northernmost province of Thailand, starting from the famous Golden Triangle, the point where the borders of Myanmar (formerly Burma), Thailand, and Laos meet. It is located 9 kilometers north of Chiang Saen, along the road along the Mekong River. Sop Ruak is where the Mekong River (border with Laos) meets the Ruak River (border with Burma). In the past, the Golden Triangle was the main global source of drug trafficking thanks to its privileged position, connected to opium-producing countries. Today, it is a renowned tourist attraction.
The visit includes Wat Phra That Pu Khao, which offers a wonderful view of the Golden Triangle, the Mekong River, and the wooded mountains. Two large multi-headed Naga snakes at the bottom of the stairs protect the temple. Continue with the Opium Museum. The museum displays and educates visitors about opium production and its use in the life of the hill tribe populations, and from the visit, we can learn a lot about the history of opium since it developed in this infamous location. Lunch is served at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, return to town and transfer to the pier for embarkation on a motorboat that along the Kok River will take us to Ruam Mitr, with a visit to the Karen and Lahu ethnic minorities. The Karen village of Ruammit located on the banks of the Nam Mae Kok (Mae Kok River) is famous for its elephants, with a long tradition of training and logging, and remains distinctly of Karen ethnicity, preserving its culture and traditions. Today it has become one of the major tourist attractions both on the Nam Mae Kok and in the province of Chiang Rai. Ruammit can be reached in 1 hour by boat from the provincial capital of Chiang Rai and boats leave at regular intervals from the Chiang Rai pier. In the early evening, arrival at the selected hotel and check-in into the reserved rooms. Overnight in a hotel in Chiang Rai.
Day 5
CHIANG RAI – CHIANG MAI, Blue Temple, White Temple, Wat Pratat Doi Suthep. (B.L.)
At 07:00 AM, meet the guide, visit the famous Blue Temple, or Wat Rong Seua Ten located a few kilometers from Chiang Rai. It is a recent temple that is still under construction, although its main hall is now completed. It is especially its magnificent blue interior with a large white Buddha that marks the spirits.
The Blue Temple of Chiang Rai is still little known among tourists because it was completed very recently.
Then we start the journey that takes us to Chiang Mai, during which the visit to the White Temple or Wat Rong Khun cannot be missed. One of the many religious places in Chiang Rai. With exceptional quality in art and extremely elaborate architecture, the consecrated hall for the assemblies of Wat Rong Khun is different from any other temple in terms of having both the peaks of the gable sculpted and the crests shaped like a tooth. The hall itself is mostly built in pure white, illustrative of the purity of the Buddha. The clear mirror-like sparkling glass serves as the wisdom of the Awakened shining on the earth and the universe.
Lunch is served at a local restaurant along the way.
Upon arrival in Chiang Mai, we complete the day dedicated to temples with the most famous in Chiang Mai, Wat Pratat Doi Suthep, located on a mountain from which there is a panoramic view of the hilly area of Chiang Mai.
Built in the early years of the 19th Buddhist century (we are now in the 26th), the beauty of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is marked by statues of seven-headed snakes that flank the stairs to the temple where there is a golden pagoda in Chiang Saen style and all its exquisite Lanna architecture. The view of Chiang Mai from here is simply phenomenal.
In the evening, transfer to the hotel, check-in into the reserved rooms. Overnight in a hotel in Chiang Mai.
Day 6
