It is best known for its well-preserved traditional culture and village layout. While most of its residents have embraced modernity, its individual compounds are well-kept, with linear stone-paved street that runs through the centre of the village toward the village temple, and age-old arched entrance gates and walls that conceal the houses within. Then, we will proceed to Besakih (approx. 45-minutes’ drive), the most important and biggest temple of Bali. The temple was built in the 11th century at 1000m of altitude on the slopes of Mount Agung, Bali’s sacred volcano. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant with a beautiful view of Bukit Jambul hills. Afterwards, drive for about 5 minutes to Sebatu to visit the Holy Water temple. After lunch, we will visit Gunung Kawi Temple complex (approx. 30-minutes’ drive), locally referred to as Pura Gunung Kawi, one of Bali’s most unique archaeological sites, comprising a collection of ancient shrine reliefs carved into the face of a rock cliff. Before heading back to the hotel, we will reach the woodcarving village of Mas (approx. 1-hour drive), where many local craftsmen carve and sculpt woods. Taman Ayun (Beautiful Garden) features a typical Balinese architecture. Finally, head to the south coast of Bali to admire Tanah Lot Temple and the spectacular landscape that surrounds it (approx. 45-minutes’/1-hour drive).
