Day 2- YOGYAKARTA (B/L): At 08.00, depart for Prambanan Temple comples, about 17 km from Yogyakarta, among green rice fields and beautiful countryside. The largest and tallest temple in this complex, known as Loro Jonggrang, covered with reliefs of the Ramayana story, is considered the most elegant and beautiful temple in Java. It has eight shrines, of which the three main ones are dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. After lunch in a local restaurant, transfer to Borobudur Temple. The massive stone stupa of Borobudur is one the greatest of all ancient architectural monuments. Built with forced labour from the surrounding countryside between about AD 750 and 850, Borobudur predates Angkor Wat in Cambodia by three centuries. Its ensembles of stone relief panels are the virtual history of Mahayana Budhist doctrine, as well as providing scholars with detailed information about life in 8th and 9th century Java.Buried under volcanic ash and tropical growth, it was only rediscovered in 1815. It has recently been fully restored by an international effort under the aegis of UNESCO. A visit will be made also to Pawon Temple. Overnight at the hotel.
NOTE: If time allows, we will arrange a visit to Kraton, the Royal Palace of Yogyakarta, between the visits to Prambanan and Borobudur. We will provide further guidance once the services are confirmed.
